Secret to pressure shifting

The secret to shifting pressure and not suffering from hitting from your back foot is mostly about timing. There is a lot more movement of your weight / pressure in a good golf swing than you think. I have same imagination and swing thought, but i have problem with wrist and clubface that is the key for ball flight. Is there a tip to square clubface?
Squaring the clubface is largely about controlling the unhinging and rolling (squaring) the wrists and clubface.
👍👏👍
Excellent job Peter in explaining the correct manner in which to pitch onto he green. I like this "weight forward" onto the lead side because it limits the movement in the swing. We are after more of a controlled type shot! Well Done Peter!
Thanks John
Too bad this video didn't get many views, because it's pure gold. Thanks for posting!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Will this help me with regripping the club in the back swing, its like i readjust my hands midback swing
It may help. Best thing is for you to hold the club correctly and monitor what your hands are doing.
This is so good. I am so terrible at this shot, because I have tendencies from my full swing and I don’t like “risking” it with wrist action. It seems like any time I try to add any elements of the high pitch to my game, I get stuck on those elements even in my long game. So I feel afraid to even attempt any of these types of shots into my practice routine because I might use them with my longer irons. I need short game lessons bad.
You should be able to separate the wrist movements between short shots and full swings with practice. Good luck with your practice.
this is absolutely a killer for my swing.....but now that I know my shoulder tension can cause a poor swing , how do I best keep it under control?...thanks
The best way is monitoring it by noticing if you are introducing tension during your swing. If you are, then start with slower swings to see if you can reduce the tension and then gradually increase your swing speed.
@@PeterKnightGolf thank you sir for your help....
I am a beginner golfer, and I have been trying to figure out how it is that some golfers seem to hit the ball so far with so little effort, and while if I hit numerous balls at the range, that I end up winded and the ball goes maybe half as far. I have watched other videos that try and explain what one needs to do, but I never really got what they were talking about until now. I guess that's the problem trying to use words to describe something physical. Anyways, I think you have unlocked something in my brain, and you have given me something to work on.
Thanks Jack. It can take some time to develop the correct movement coordination for an effective golf swing. Keep at it and you’ll find that your distance will increase over time.
When you go back I can’t feel or what gets me to front foot. I go back and leave all weight back. Am I pushing off back foot to get onto lead. Or am I floating to front foot. The weight of club and body moving back I get stuck and just hit off back foot still.
Better to float to the front foot. The float begins well before you get to the end of your backswing. If you wait until the end of our backswing before attempting to shift pressure to your front foot, it will be too late.
💯
Another excellent tip Peter on how to add 30+ yards to the drives. I have been working on the arm movement and body rotation in my golf swing, but haven't really paid that much attention to where my sternum is. After watching this video, I now will do so. I am always checking my club faces to see where the ball impact is and will make adjustments, if needed. Well Done Peter! Always learning and validating from your videos!
Thanks John
Simple , concise and most important ...great golf tips
Thanks Kent
I love your channel so much. You give practical advice, in an understandable way that can be transferable. You’re a legend. Thank you
You are so welcome
How do you hit up with the driver without right bending at setup?
You will bend to the right. Just make sure it isn’t too much.
Fantastic drills Peter, been stuck from downswing to contact point, working tirelessly on hips and feet positioning when my problem was not letting go of the club, thank you so much
My pleasure Paul. Hope it knocks some strokes off your score.
Excellent video Peter on why 95% of golfers miss with their irons. I have to admit that I will include myself in this 95%. Although I feel that my ball position is good, I do hit fat shots with my irons. I try to focus on the front of the ball, but I feel that I'm not moving my weight to the left side as it should be. I'm always checking the divot and my club face in order to make any adjustments. Well Done Peter! Keep up the good work!
Thanks John.
Great video, great drill. Thank You!
Glad you liked it!
In order for golfers to easily understand, you need to explain the exact mechanisms that constitutes the two pendulums in the golf swing . Namely the hands and wrists and golf club equal one pendulums; along with the scapula shoulders and arms equaling the other pendulum. Both pendulums need to be in total synchronization with the other as the golfer pivots from one side to the other. Do you agree? ? Cheers 😊🥂👍
Yes, the coordination is critical.
Ironically I just saw a Moe Norman video where he said he did grip in the palm of the right hand as it gave him more control. Not that I'm going to do it. However I do like the idea of the knuckle behind the grip not under. I will give that a try. Thanks for the tip
Well, no. The elbow doesn't do that at all. When you look closely at Hogan doing his slow mo drill you can see that he fully activates the "inside muscles" in the left side of his right forearm in the start of his downswing. In his actual swing he fused his hands at the top of his backswing; and, this helped him to fully activate the muscles in the left side of his right forearm. Obviously, the right hand and arm react against the left hand when it presses against the right hand, in the start of the downswing.
Don't you mean slightly ascending blow
❤❤
I think the emphasis on the hip rotation will change my swing drastically and especially for my dad. Will update next weekend on progress.
Yes, let me know how you both go.
Good job. Hogans book is called 5 lessons, not magic bullets. He tells you to spend time on each lesson. Some lessons are exaggerated to help you assuming you are working on them. Just as you show here, Hogan knows you should be able to adjust properly and find your own way.
Peter, excellent job on describing Hogan's "Magic Elbow!" One thing I do in my golf swing is pay close attention to the folding and unfolding of the right arm. In this lesson you pointed out several valuable things that need to be paid attention to as well. One important thing that I haven't been doing is to also pay attention to the right wrist, which I will now do! Well Done Peter! I have both Hogan's and Nicklaus's books in my bookcase. I've referred to them many times!
Best explanation of this I have ever heard. You just got a new sub. Thanks.
Thanks for subscribing Greg
Thank you. Best advice I ever got. I too am left-handed and right eye dominant. Instruction books are written for right handers.
I generally keep a loose right hand. Yes, it provides the power.....but all the control and stability is in the left hand. My right hand hardly grips at all...and I do the overlap grip. The thumb and first finger grips...and rest is all loose. Even then, right hand just provides power and controls swing path.
The day I started thinking of throwing versus pulling my golf swing clicked into place much better dispersion and distance. Such a subtle difference really but very impactful for me. Great video.
Thanks Dave
Thanks.
Thanks for these tips, Peter. I worked with you many years ago at the Mirage GC Pt Douglas in the Proshop.. Tom Fielding and Keith, were your assistant pro's. I'm playing off 3 these days at the age of 60...lol
Great to hear from you. That was a long time ago now. Sounds like your golf has been excellent for a long time. Thanks again for connecting.
Interesting but I never heard you say anything abut the impact on the flight of the ball. Is this supposed to prevent hooking the ball with a strong right hand turning the club over too soon?
It can certainly help prevent big hook shots. More generally it will give you better clubface control which is beneficial for all shots.
Best advice for correct grip I’ve seen will give it a go
Thanks Michael. Post a comment to say how you go.
Gold! The best explanation of this critical stage of setup I have yet seen.
Wow, I do this too! And it was for another reason I searched for this video, trying to see if you would explain if the shoulders should be pulled back, or if I should leave them loose and go forward like when I relax. I hunch a bit, so it is unnatural for me to pull them back, and I feel that is tension... so I am trying to find the answer to that, but I found out now that I also raise my shoulders like you explained! I can't begin to explain how much this helped me just now.. the swing feel sooo much more easy now and relaxed now! Holy sh...
Set your spine as well as you comfortably can. Our spinal flexibility differs from person to person and changes with age, so our golf posture will need to reflect that.
Why not use “trail hand”?
Try swinging with your right hand only...i bet you will not hold it in that position.
You should be able to Kenny.
Best video I have found on this, excellent simple advice..thanks Peter!
Thanks Red
you are showing max hand speed at 9 O'Clock but I thought it was was typically at the 7:30-8 O'Clock position where it occurs with the top golfers. No?
It will usually be somewhere between chest and hip height, so 9:00-7:30. You are correct.
Thanks!
Wow this eye opening
The good old killers, 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you Peter, great tip!
Thanks again Peter! Explains my fat shots even though I'm trying not to move off the ball. It also makes getting pressure back into the lead side so much easier and consistent 👍
Thanks but precisely when we have to straighten the elbow or release it ? Or maintain until the finishing?
It will gradually straighten during the downswing, ideally changing very little from the start of the downswing to about chest-height. At impact it will still be bent and not straighten until after impact
@PeterKnightGolf Thanks much appreciated. The tendency to straighten the elbow just before impact still persist no matter how. Any idea drill to hit ball and thereafter turf?
Great video, it's the little things isn't it, you could put a great swing on it but if the setup isn't right it's not happening. The knuckle and finger I try to imagine a question mark...helped a lot. Thanks 👍
This video changed everything for me! I wish I had found this sooner. Thank you Peter.
My pleasure. Glad it helped you.
What can I do to keep my right elbow from being tucked in the backswing. Looking for an exercise to keep the elbow off my side on the backswing. Thanks
Sounds like your arms are tucked tight against your sides. Feel like you are throwing the club away from you (away from the target). You can only do that if your arms are free.
I can’t get my right elbow off my right side on the back swing
Excellent explanation and demonstration Peter on how important it is to "stay centered" in the backswing and downswing!
Thanks John
